Description
My blue RX-7
———
1987 RX-7
-5 speed transmission
-172,081 miles
The good:
-Fully loaded
-Cruise control
-Power sunroof that needs little help closing but closes and works fine
-A/C works and very cold
-Good interior
-Nice seats with covers that are all stock
The extras!:
-K and N intake
-Flow Master dual exhaust ($1500 alone)
-2 Magna Flow catalytic converters. I replaced 2 out of the 3 cats.
-Has an Turbo II hood from my other RX-7 that I already sold (I have a sweet Prelude now, hehe)
-1 Turbo II side mirror, the other is stock
-1991 RX-7 tail lights that look way better than the stock 1987 ones.
-KYB gas-adjustable shocks – settings 1 thru 4 on front, 1 thru 8 on back (1=hard shocks, 4/8=soft shocks) – no body roll in corners
-New Toyo directionals on the 1988 RX-7 Turbo II’s tires (lots of tread), 16 inch rims, 5 lugs
-About $4000 in parts over 6 years of ownership
Now the bad:
-Bad seals, which is typical for high miles on 13b rotary.
-Needs water every 30 miles. Compression in the manafold pushes coolant out and so it must be replaced.
-Has the usual wire harness problem that RX-7s tend to have
-1 cat converter is bad. I replaced 2, but then the 3rd went bad and I didn’t want to put more into it.
-Wipers only work on settings 1 and 4, but have no other problems.
-Speaker wiring is there, although I’m keeping the aftermarket deck and speakers.
-AND LASTLY no title. The car is from a Nevada dealership and I bought it from the guy who bought it from the dealership. He didn’t get the pink slip transferred to him from the dealer and since then, the dealer went out of business. I got caught in DMV hell trying to get a new title. The CA DMV in Sacramento says to talk to the Nevada DMV and the NV DMV says that the original dealership is out of business, so no dice and talk to the CA dealership. Neither one wants to move first. So the car is in limbo, but it is assuredly not stolen and has not been used in a bank robbery or anything. It just had a first owner who didn’t know about paperwork.
I love my new Prelude and I am tired of getting crap from my girlfriend’s mom about the RX-7 sitting in the driveway so I’m looking to sell it. I’m not in a hurry, but I am sure that it’ll be popular and first come, first served.
A legal option to get a title for it is to take it to your property, call the city and say that it’s been on your property for 30 days. This will let you put a lien on it, and if nobody claims it in another 30 days, it’s yours. It’s been mine for 6 years and I won’t claim it. So, it can be yours free and clear.
